This was one of several articles that RACV Marine commissioned me to write on topics that introduced fundamental concepts in recreational boating.

Despite the ‘introductory’ tone of these articles, the majority of traffic consisted of experienced recreational boaters.

To that end, I opted for a listicle format. This would permit the piece to convey enough essential technical information while retaining a suitably short format. The numerous headers breaking up the article also improved its readability (which translated into higher time on page) on mobile devices.
